I have nothing else to say, except OH MY GOD IT’S SO PRETTY .
Not pictured: me nearly crashing into the sun and sustaining substantial heat damage whilst wrestling with my six year old joystick.
Hnnnnghhhhh.

I hope you enjoy it, I’ve heard nothing but complaints about it from the commentariat on RPS.

I had bought this from Steam when it was 25% off, but refunded it an hour later because the tutorial AI kept killing me. The flight controls seemed quite touchy when using a Xbox controller.

I am waiting to get back into games with the new VR stuff. I was promised this shit years ago! I have installed GDC and E3 so I’ve had a chance to try this game and the VR headsets. I only tried it for a couple minutes, it is pretty, I have heard this is a bit too technical and less get in and have fun, I play games to have fun.

I think that's because the Xbox controller is pretty touchy in its default settings. It is quite sensitive when I play TIE Fighter or XWing Alliance.

how do you like it? I bought it shortly after it came out, but have not played it much because it was taking so long to get enough money to upgrade anything.

It’s a little bit of a grind at first. The best way to make money early on is essentially making it into STS: Space Truck Simulator. I’m told they’ve evened it out a little, but the best thing to do is save money to buy a Hauler, then upgrade to an Adder, then a Cobra. Also, whenever you buy a new ship, sell off everything in the old one...weapons, shields, anything that’s not bolted to the floor. There’s a slight depreciation in the ship itself, but you can sell the weapons separately for full price...if you leave them on the ship, you take a hit on the parts.

I get a huge kick out of docking in Elite. It’s a mundane thing, but the sort that makes you feel like you’re an actual pilot.

Will try this. I think I need to get a new joystick too. Mine is a piece of garbage.

A good joystick helps a lot. I’m using a Logitech Extreme 3d, which is fine, along with a Logitech G13 game board, which I’m not using to it’s full potential. Some people are using the Saitek HOTAS Rhino, which looks great but has reliability issues. I’ve also seen people use dual joysticks, which is kinda neat. But yeah, even just going to good newer joystick (with a Z rotation, you need a Z rotation) will make it feel much better.

I think i might get that logitech that you have, it seems a lot more reasonable than the setups most people suggest. I have this http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-ST90-Jo…
it is a total piece of junk. Don’t ever get one.

Saitek has apparently gone way down hill, they used to be really excellent. If you wanted a stick and throttle, a used X52 can be had for under $100 and would work really nicely. But the Extreme 3d is nice because it's just one stick but it has the throttle control and like 14 buttons, so you can do a lot of the stuff you need to do without having your hands leave the joystick.

Love it. It’s just that feeling of immersion that’s so great. I only did a few courier/haulage missions (and one smuggling but don’t let the system authorities know) and I’ve already got enough to buy me a new ship. But I’m not going to yet, because I’ve yet to decide where I really want to setup operations and I haven’t got insurance for my ship yet.

True, it’s a very realism focused game.

I think that’s mainly because of the Open World community, where people get to be pirates. In Solo Mode it ain’t so bad.
